Tried and Tested: Embraer 135

Tried & Tested 9 JUNE 2026
Embraer 135

In this month’s ‘Tried & Tested’, we look at the Embraer 135, a regional jet that continues to prove its value for group charter flights.

Compact, efficient and reliable, it is a strong choice for short to medium-haul flights where flexibility, comfort and speed matter just as much as cost-effectiveness. Popular with football teams, automotive manufacturers and smaller MICE groups, the Embraer 135 sits neatly between a turboprop and a larger regional jet, giving our clients the convenience of private charter with the practicality of a commercial-style cabin.

Let’s take a look at the specifications:

The Embraer 135 is the smallest member of Embraer’s ERJ family and was built specifically for lower-demand regional routes.

Typically seating up to 37 passengers, it offers a maximum range of approximately 3,243 km, making it well suited to flights across the UK and Europe. Powered by two rear-mounted Rolls-Royce AE 3007 engines, the aircraft cruises at around 825–828 km/h and operates at altitudes of up to 37,000 ft. Measuring 26.33 m in length with a wingspan of around 20.04 m, the Embraer 135 combines regional jet performance with a relatively compact footprint, enabling efficient operation into a variety of airports.

The cabin is typically configured with a 2-1 layout (two seats on one side of the aisle, one seat on the other), which gives a more spacious feel than other comparable regional aircraft.

The stand-up cabin, onboard lavatory and galley facilities make it a practical choice for business groups and event travel. For smaller group travel, it offers an appealing balance of exclusivity and efficiency without stepping up to a much larger aircraft.

Why we like the Embraer 135

James Gregory, Head of VIP Charter, recently organised an Embraer 135 charter for a VIP group travelling to the Champions League final in Budapest. The spacious cabin was customised with bespoke cotton headrest covers to set the tone for their journey from London.

James Gregory said “The Embraer 135 is one of those aircraft that quietly does a lot of things very well. As one of the smaller regional jets available for charter, for the right mission it is exceptionally effective. It combines the performance and privacy of a private jet with the cabin practicality needed for group travel. For many of our clients the Embraer 135 remains a very smart choice.”

Reasons to charter the Embraer 135

  • Ideal for sports team travel, especially for smaller squads, coaching staff and support personnel who benefit from travelling together on a dedicated aircraft.
  • Well suited to corporate shuttles, roadshows and incentive trips where time efficiency and airport flexibility are priorities.
  • A practical option for automotive and manufacturing clients moving teams between multiple European sites quickly and comfortably.
  • Its short to medium-haul capability makes it effective for journeys across Europe without the complexity of larger group aircraft.
  • Offers a strong middle ground for groups who are too large for a private jet but do not require a larger commercial aircraft.
