As planning begins for this year’s MICE season, we’re receiving an increasing number of enquiries for aircraft charters to Lisbon, proving its value as a European meetings and incentives destination.
Lisbon is the westernmost capital of a mainland European country, located on the Atlantic Coast at the mouth of the River Tagus in Portugal. Renowned for its historic districts and scenic viewpoints, the city allows event planners to combine meetings and events with coastal, river or hillside experiences.
Outstanding accessibility
“Lisbon’s accessibility is one of the destination’s strongest advantages for international events”, say micebook.
Lisbon’s international airport, Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS), sits just outside the city centre, with transfer times of around 20 minutes to central areas.
For event planners, the airport’s proximity to the capital ensures a swift arrival into the city and helps to keep event programmes on schedule.
Lisbon stands out from other European destinations as a well-connected, walkable and culturally rich city, making it an increasingly popular choice for international meetings, incentives, conferences and events.
Lisbon airports
The region is served by two airports:
- Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) is Lisbon’s main international airport and the arrival point of most international flights and commercial aircraft.
- Cascais Airport (CAT) is located 20km from Lisbon and is a smaller airport for private jet charters of up to 13 passengers.
Luís de Camões Airport is a planned international airport that will be located 40km from Lisbon’s centre. The new airport is projected to be completed in 2034.
Event planners organising group travel to Lisbon for meetings and incentives can choose aircraft charters to open up connectivity and the opportunity to fly delegates from convenient locations across Europe and beyond. As well as offering a range of suitable aircraft for charter flights, from private jets for small groups and VIP travel, to commercial aircraft for large groups, we’re also able to advise on private terminals, bespoke in-flight catering and onward ground transportation.
Case study: charter flights to Lisbon
A company based in Billund, Denmark have chosen aircraft charter for their group of 100 delegates travelling to Lisbon for an event this year.
With no direct flights from Billund (BLL) to Lisbon (LIS) available with scheduled airlines, the charter flights not only provide easy access to Lisbon, but also more control over their schedule. The group will travel on a B737-800 aircraft, with drinks and snacks served during the 3.5-hour flight, returning to Billund on the same aircraft after the event three days later. The event planners have chosen a convenient early morning departure time and a late afternoon return.
Lisbon venues
With diverse settings for meetings and events, Lisbon offers a wide variety of hotels and venues, accommodating a range of group sizes. From large-scale venues to boutique riverfront hotels and meeting rooms, event planners can find unique and memorable spaces in convenient locations across the city.
Our partners at Miss Jones Group, can organise bookings at a range of recommended hotels and venues in the city.
