Smart Tried and Tested: Agusta GrandNew 109

In this month’s ‘Smart: Tried and Tested’ we’re taking a look at the Agusta GrandNew 109, also known as the AW109

13 October 2023: In this month’s ‘Smart: Tried and Tested’ we’re taking a look at the Agusta GrandNew 109, also known as the AW109. This helicopter is always one of our first choices for clients requesting fast and comfortable transfers.

The AW109, known as the first all-Italian helicopter, features a streamlined, stylish shape and unrivalled elegance in its interior finishes, in addition to advanced avionics. The helicopter can come in a variety of configurations including a spacious six-seat design or a four passenger luxury composition.

There’s ample space onboard, with extendable baggage compartments. Large sliding doors and electrically adjustable steps, ensures access is easy for all passengers.

The bright and soundproofed cabin, guarantees a pleasant journey, whilst the state of the art features in the cockpit – which include a four-axis digital autopilot and increased situational awareness technology – offers the highest standard of safety, even in congested city areas.

Powered by two advanced (and super quiet) Pratt and Whitney engines, the AW109 has a weight of 1,590kg, while the maximum gross weight is 3,000kg.

The AW109 has a maximum cruise speed of 175 mph (283 km) and a maximum range of 517 miles (833 km), a maximum endurance of four hours and 22 minutes. Its maximum operating altitude is 16,00ft.

The overall length of the helicopter is 42 ft 6 in (12.96m) and it is 11 ft 2 in (3.40 m) high. The rotor diameter is 35 ft 6 in (10.83 m).

Smart’s VIP Charter Broker, Kacper Wojtaszek, said: “When I think of a luxury helicopter, I always think of the AW109. I use it frequently because our clients love its reliability and the pleasing ride it offers. This year alone, we have charted this helicopter for VIPS travelling to the Formula One at Silverstone, the races at Cheltenham, an artist to the world-renowned Glastonbury festival, and to some of the most sought after skiing destinations such as Grenoble. The AW109 is always a safe option too with its double Pratt & Whitney engines, which power most of the world’s light-twin helicopters”.
