Here is what May and June will look like for Smart Aviation as we look to be flying several thousand passengers to the biggest sporting events on the calendar.

Leinster vs Saracens – Rugby Champions Cup final
On the 11th May, Smart will be chartering over 1,000 Leinster fans from Ireland to Newcastle on day return charters to the Champions cup final which will kick off at 5pm at St James’ Park in Newcastle.

Champions League Final – Madrid, 1st June
Following Liverpool’s stunning comeback against Barcelona, we have confirmed more than 10 flights for Red’s supporters to Madrid for the Champions League final, and following Tottenham’s victory in Amsterdam, we are booking up London based departures for their fans travelling to Spurs’ very first Champions League Final.

Europa League Final
We wait with anticipation tonight to find out if both Chelsea or Arsenal can make it to the final on 29th May. (It will also be tense at Smart HQ with both Chelsea and Arsenal fans waiting for the result!) Following tonight’s results, Smart will face the challenge of arranging flights for fans of either club to the final which is being played in Baku, Azerbaijan on 29th May.

European charter solutions
Smart don’t just operate in the UK, we provide logistic solutions for European based clients and we can’t forget the final weekend of Premier League fixtures, with the title and top places all still to play for.  We have chartered two 189 seat aircraft from Scandinavia to Manchester on 12th May bringing Scandinavian Manchester United fans to their game versus Cardiff and also Nordic Liverpool supporters to their final match of the season versus Wolverhampton Wanderers.

This will be the 13th Champions League that Smart have been heavily involved in, and our extensive knowledge in operating sports flights has enabled us to answer the most challenging requests and meet the most unique requirements when chartering teams and supporters on behalf of specialist sports travel clients.

Private jets for transfer signings

Premier League Summer 2018 transfers

The Premier League’s summer transfer window is open and will close at 17:00 BST on Thursday 9 August – that’s over three weeks earlier than usual. Under new FA rules, English clubs must complete transfer signings before the Premier League season starts on Saturday, 11 August.

The window opened on 17 May and the earlier deadline will ensure that clubs have a more stable start to the 2018/2019 season. They’ll be able to sell players until the end of August but all buying activity must be completed by the new deadline of 9 August.

Whilst the FA have changed the rules for all English clubs, FIFA’s official deadline remains Friday, 31 August and Spanish, German, Italian and French clubs can sign players from English sides until 31 August. The transfer window in Scotland also ends on 31 August.

Private jet charters

In our experience, demand for private jet charters increases in the last week of the transfer window, as football clubs push to get those all-important contracts signed before the deadline.

We’ve been assisting football clubs with private jet charters for transfer talks, medicals and signings for many years – and our experienced team understand the specific requirements of this type of charter.

By nature, these private flights are often last-minute and require the utmost discretion; as European charter specialists, we’re well positioned to react quickly and present the most suitable charter options at a competitive price. Very light jets or light jets (see our aircraft guide) provide a quick, convenient and comfortable way to move a professional player across Europe and back again within a working day – and we’ve been known to have a jet in the air within an hour of receiving a charter request!

2018 FIFA World Cup

Charter flights to fixtures

Excitement is building for the start of the 21st FIFA World Cup!

The tournament kicks off on Thursday 14 June when host nation Russia take on Group A opponents Saudi Arabia at the Luzhniki  Stadium in Moscow.

Given the distances involved when travelling within Russia, aircraft charter presents the most viable and convenient option for travel to the World Cup fixtures and we are pleased to be providing charter flights for an international football federation and their supporters, as well as flights for one of FIFA’s corporate partners.

World Cup build-up

We started working on sourcing aircraft for the World Cup 2018 in 2017 and worked closely with trusted operators and airlines to ensure availability for key dates.

Our extensive experience in commercial jet charter for football clubs, national federations and sports tour operators means that we were best placed to advise on the most suitable aircraft solutions to meet the unique requirements of World Cup charter flights within Russia. During the World Cup Qualifying period, we chartered aircraft for European national teams and their supporters, on behalf of our specialist sports travel clients.

The tournament will be played in 12 stadiums across 11 cities, all of which are in or very close to European Russia. Our clients will be utilising these international airports for access to the stadia shown on the map below.

Russian International Airports

Moscow Domodedovo Airport (DME)

Kazan International Airport (KZN)

Pulkovo International Airport (LED)

Kurumoch International Airport (KUF)

Sochi International Airport (AER)

Volgograd International Airport (VOG)

Sports charters to all the big finals

Our aircraft charters will be flying thousands of supporters to the three big European finals in May.

Champions Cup Final

We’re now preparing for our charter flights to European rugby’s Champions Cup final in Bilbao, Spain.

The city’s San Mamés Stadium will host the match between Leinster Rugby and Racing 92 for the decider on Saturday 12th May. Our day return charters will carry over 2,500 Leinster rugby supporters from Dublin International Airport (DUB) to Bilbao Airport (BIO) to see their team play in the final – and we’ll be cheering them on for a win.

Our experience in chartering aircraft for supporter flights to rugby fixtures goes way back to when the company was founded in 2005 and we remain the first choice for sports tour operators for their charter flights to European rugby tournament fixtures, including the Six Nations.

Europa League & Champions League Finals

European football reaches fever pitch in May, with both championship finals taking place within a couple of weeks of each other. We’re now in the process of sourcing more aircraft for supporter charter flights to the Europa League final in Lyon on Wednesday 16th May and the Champions League final in Kiev on Saturday 26th May.

Our decades of experience, unrivalled relationships with operators and leverage in the European market ensures that we deliver the most cost-effective solution for our clients, without compromising on quality.

Winter Olympics 2018

A VIP aircraft charter for Team Canada

On 8 February 2018, the Canadian men’s ice hockey team flew into Yangyang International Airport for the Winter Olympics, which take place at PyeongChang resort in South Korea.

We were delighted and proud to charter the aircraft on their behalf, with European business aviation company Klasjet.

The unique Boeing 737-500, a narrow-body business aircraft, was selected for its unique VIP configured cabin. With 56 business class seats, the aircraft was designed with the requirements of sports teams in mind and provided a supremely comfortable flight for the team, considered to be one of the strongest men’s ice hockey teams in the world.

Our Sales Director, Matthew Savage, oversaw the flight from Latvia to South Korea. “Most other athletes travelling to the Winter Olympics have to fly to Seoul and travel overland. Our VIP charter for Team Canada meant that they were able to fly directly to Yangyang, the closest international airport to PyeongChang – just one of the many benefits of a private aircraft charter for team travel.’ said Matthew.

Our experience and expertise in aircraft charter for professional sports teams meant that we were able to provide the best solution for the requirements of the group with this unique aircraft. With such a prestigious event ahead of them, it was imperative that the team received a seamless travel experience.

‘Our service has already been used by several well-known football and basketball teams. We are proud that the Canadian national hockey team, which will defend the champions’ title at the Olympics, chose our company. It is a significant assessment and achievement for us. Of course, this is a great responsibility due to working with the customers of such level. Every detail is extremely important and everything must be done perfectly,’ said Dovydas Jurgelevicius, CEO of KlasJet.

We wish the Canadian ice hockey team the best of luck in the Winter Olympics 2018. Go Team Canada!
