Smart visit the 2010 Business & General Aviation Day (BGAD) at Cambridge Airport
Tuesday 21st September saw the annual Business & General Aviation Day (BGAD) at Cambridge Airport. Mark Hawkins, Matthew Savage and Paul Baker from Smart Aviation went along to see all that’s new in the Business Aviation market. There was an impressive display of static aircraft, including the Phenom 100, the class leading Eurocopter EC155 and the show stealing Embraer Lineage 1000.
As the last of the summer sunshine drenched the apron at Cambridge, the conversation also took on an equally positive quality. Many people we spoke to mentioned that they had started to see small signs of recovery in the market place, and were cautiously optimistic for the future. Many operators spoke of an upturn in flight enquiries and bookings, as well as enthusing about fleet expansion and growth.
The Lineage1000 is Embraer’s entry into the VIP Airline sector, and the demonstrator aircraft provided by the Brazilian manufacturer certainly provided the talking point of the day. With its’ impressive range, capable of flying non-stop from London to Chicago, it also has all the luxuries you would expect on an aircraft of this calibre. It’s not unusual these days to find a bedroom on board a private jet, but the option to take a shower at 41,000 ft was an unexpected addition. Paul Baker says “Along with the largest luggage capacity in its class and a multitude of custom cabin configurations, this aircraft is set to become a very popular sight at Business Airports around the World.”
