One of the busiest weeks of the year kicked off with the Europa League final
The match was contested between two Portuguese teams, Porto and Braga. The huge logistical effort of transporting thousands of fans from Portugal to the Irish capital was no mean feat. Smart utilised various aircraft from the fleets of the following airlines; Jet2.com, Calima, Transavia, Air Mediterranee, Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium, XL Airways France, and Neos. Smart Aviation was responsible for approximately 30% of the total aircraft movements for the final in Dublin.
Throughout the period, Smart’s 24 hour office-based operations team liaised with the end clients, some of largest tour operators in Portugal and the participating airlines, to ensure every flight ran smoothly and to schedule. These included Viagens Abreu, one of Portugal’s principle tour operators with over 170 years of history in the travel industry, operating from more than 130 branches, and Viagens Cosmos, a business, professional, incentives and conferences specialist.
Smart Aviation also deployed staff to monitor the operations from the ground in Dublin – in order to address any issues that arose at the airport. The dispatch rate for charters managed by Smart was impressive, with 96.2% of flights running to schedule.
